New York is a place of opportunity, dreams, and political activism. Activists in New York have impacted all of the major societal changes, such as women's rights movement, segregation, gay rights, etc. New York has been a important part of history in the change of unjust laws in America. Violent and nonviolent approaches have been taken in order to change the way all of us live, like Martin Luther King Jr.'s peaceful method of ending segregation, or Malcolm X's aggressive fight to do the same.
Humor, cartoons and artwork have often been used to show position on a certain movement, pro- or anti- . In the women's rights era, some political cartoons were handed out from that time period that were hard to decipher. Some people thought that the cartoons were pro-suffrage and some thought it was anti-suffrage. When you looked closer at the pictures, you realized that most of them were making fun of women. The artists had used clever ways to convey a message that would change people's minds. The museum trip made all of us realize what we really believed in, and how we all can take a stand to change it too.
