Notes on the book in general-
In the book, The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini, Amir is more complicated than many other characters in more popular, modern-set books. Hosseini explores the limits of selflessness, and at what point a person begins to care only for themselves. The main character, Amir, reaches his limit for fright, when he is confronted by Assef, the antagonist, as well as jealousy that his best friend gets more attention than he from Amir's father. Hosseni provokes thoughts in us about where our own breaking points are.
Archetypes;
Shadow- Amir
Amir is a shadow because he cares only for himself and doesn't care if it hurts anyone else such as Hassan, Ali, the woman on the bus, etc. You never now where is loyalties lie, and if he is going to do the right thing, even though he is the main character. Amir will get hurt in the end, whether it is because he doesn't care about anyone, or because the consequences of his past actions will affect the few people he will care about.
Threshold Guardian- Rahim Khan
Rahim Khan seems to serve no purpose in the advancement of the story or plot, until the apparent end of Amir's childhood when Amir is called by a dying Rahim Khan, who persuades Amir to save Sohab (Hassan's orphaned son) from an orphanage. He tells Amir "There is a way to be good again."and Amir follows him.
Scapegoat- Hassan's Family
Hassan gives up everything for Amir, at first little things, like kite running trophies, and some meals, but then bigger and bigger things like his self-respect, his dignity, his life. He is killed by the government along with his wife because he would not let Amir's old house be torn down, and his reputation tarnished. Ali is made fun of and killed because of his disability and his son attempts suicide because of the humiliation put upon him by Assef. Hassan's family is killed, humiliated, tortured, and sacrificed for the enjoyment of others, or to hurt Amir.
The elaboration in your synthesis page is very strong because not only is it well written, but it is neat and well organized. For example you were consistent with writing a brief summary, and then writing elaboration directly below the quote. I would like to do this in my synthesis page next time because it helped the page make sense.
